With over 3 1/2 decades of experience helping businesses from startups to 500+ employee multinationals, Mike Stair brings a breadth and depth of experience that translates to immediate, positive results for clients.
Mike has taken multiple businesses through successful growth and exit, most recently having led, as President & CEO, the turnaround and successful sale of a mid-sized, family-owned enterprise. Many companies are entrepreneurial in nature, having a principal with a product or service that is their core competency and their passion. These folks are great at what they do, but often need help building their businesses, attracting capital, or smoothing out the rough spots that come with growth. That's where Mike comes in.
Following a seven-year stint with a multinational agribusiness company, where he was instrumental in forming two successful joint ventures, Mike co-founded and led a management services firm. There, for over 25 years he provided interim C-level management and consulting services to small and medium sized companies, sometimes working on a project basis while other times assisting through longer term relationships. Business owners look to him as both mentor and coach.
Mike's diverse clients have included manufacturers, chemical handlers, banks, non-profits, wholesale distributors, service firms, and estates, and have ranged from startups to turnaround and bankruptcy work, to serving as contract COO for a statewide non-profit going through a major systems and operational transition.
Mike served as Chief Information Officer for nine years for a 120+ employee, multi-site healthcare organization, directing significant systems implementations and organizational improvements. He also served as Director and CFO for a startup consumer goods company for seven years, taking the company through a successful capital raise and sale.
He is experienced in strategic planning, financial analysis and project management, and is adept at coordinating information systems to meet operational requirements. Mike has directed numerous complex technological projects, and finds that his broad background with strength in finance and technology, as well as excellent interpersonal and organizational development skills serves the needs of Maine companies business owners very well.
Mike has presented multiple seminars for chambers of commerce and industry trade shows, and maintains various professional affiliations. He has also served on the boards of both for-profit and non-profit organizations. Mike earned his MBA in International Business (Summa cum laude) and BBA in Economics, both from S. F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Mike’s passion is bringing out the best in an organization; in helping owners recognize the full potential for their businesses; and in seeing 'what might be' become 'what is'.
